PIG HELPS EDUCATE CHILDREN - February 26, 1998

Learners at The Children's Workshop in Belvedere Road in Claremont are learning how to love and care for animals with the help of a round little black and pink pig called Monty. Monty lives in an enclosed pen on the school grounds together with two rabbits, two white ducks called 'Mr and Mrs' and two Bantam chicks. A new addition to the close-knit family is a tortoise but the school is still waiting for a permit. All the animals live so well together that Monty and the rabbits huddle together at night. The children are encouraged to interact with the animals and learn how to handle them with respect and care.

Here learners dressed as farmers give Monty the pig a bit of love and a carrot for a morning snack. Standing at back, from left: Kelly Lyttle and Talia Simons. Front, from left: Richard Morris, Gillian Antz and Jenny Thompson.
